Lost in Tandem, an emotional cooperative puzzle game

Get comfortable and take a deep breath. The video you will find in this article summarizes our entire adventure on Lost in Tandem, played at high speed for visual pleasure, while keeping the sweetness of the original soundtrack at normal speed. We dove into this asymmetric puzzle game in this exact chill and contemplative mindset alongside Zekkey (from the Twitch channel ZekkeyTV).

A powerful human and virtual experience, pushing us to synchronize our brains and controllers. After exploring every corner of this world where nature has reclaimed its rights, it is time to give you our complete verdict.

Official cover of Lost in Tandem, cooperative puzzle game by Tempete Studio, 2026 review
Lost in Tandem : a rich post-apocalyptic universe where nature reclaims its rights, created by Tempete Studio and published by JuiceBox Studios.

Quick reminder : Lost in Tandem is the second review produced by Little Big Campus thanks to a key provided by a partner studio. The first one was our full review of Escape the Mad Empire, for those curious to explore a completely different universe!

OUR QUICK VERDICT ★ Score : 7/10
Chill, poetic, and touching : the ideal coop game for a duo evening
For who : two players seeking a soothing and visually stunning adventure
Current price : available on Steam for $15.49.

A striking visual journey across five biomes

A "handmade" art direction that slaps from the very first second

The art direction of Lost in Tandem hits hard right away with its "handmade" look. The game depicts an immensely detailed post-apocalyptic universe, bursting with colors and life. The contrast between the rusted remnants of humanity and the lushness of the rebirthing flora is visually quite stunning.

Five chapters, five atmospheres, five reasons to stay hooked

The title is divided into five chapters, each represented by a distinct biome beautifully crafted :

  • The abandoned city : the perfect starting point to watch nature slowly consume the concrete.
  • The frozen world : an area with a harsher and quieter atmosphere.
  • The lush forest : an explosion of greenery and details (clearly my favorite biome of the adventure).
  • The desert : an arid crossing dotted with the ruins of a forgotten village.
  • The mangrove : a mysterious aquatic environment (which completely won over Zekkey).

The climax of this journey leads us to the top of a mountain covered in poppies. A final scene of pure beauty, which will be remembered for a long time.

Asymmetry serving true cooperation

Two characters, two ways to play, a single team

The core of Lost in Tandem lies in the complementarity of its duo. On one side, an agile young girl ; on the other, Mech-ute, an obsolete robot. The gameplay mechanics intelligently expand throughout the adventure, constantly renewing the interest.

The young heroine uses a laser to activate mechanisms, sneaks into narrow spaces inaccessible to her companion, and interacts with computer terminals. Mech-ute, on his end, brings brute force and technology : he carries the little girl to give her height, unleashes electrical discharges to restart ancient machinery, acts as a shield against wind gusts, and even unlocks telekinesis powers.

Piloting the robot with four hands : the real moment of grace of the game

The peak of fun happens when the little girl takes the controls inside the robot. The controls are then shared between both players! One manages the lateral movements, the other handles jumps and interactions. The first few minutes are full of joyful clumsiness, then, very quickly, a true symbiosis settles in. Towards the end, we barely needed to communicate anymore to move forward smoothly together. A highly rewarding sensation.

Beautiful poetry, a strong message, and some lingering mysteries

The bond forged between human and machine is touching, carried by an omnipresent ecological message. The story proves to be highly poetic and the characters quickly become endearing.

We were left wanting more regarding the depth of the lore, however. Exploration allows you to check computers and read posters, elements lacking impact on the main storyline. These readings struggle to involve us further in the stakes of this universe. The conclusion of the game perfectly illustrates this frustration : the final encounter with another child accompanied by an identical robot to ours raises a lot of questions, which sadly remain unanswered. We would have loved to piece together the narrative puzzle thanks to the terminals crossed along the way.

Our areas for improvement for a sequel or an upcoming patch

To offer you a completely transparent review, we also noted a few minor hiccups during our session :

  • Sometimes temperamental jumps : the physics of the young girl's jumps occasionally lack precision, requiring several attempts on certain platforming phases.
  • Camera wanderings : on a few occasions, the camera tends to drift a bit too far upward, hiding the little girl behind the scenery.
  • A toned-down challenge : the game is deliberately designed to be relaxing, and the puzzles remain globally simple from start to finish. We would have appreciated the difficulty stepping up a notch in the final chapters to make our duo brains smoke a little more.

Rest assured, these small flaws do not tarnish the overall experience at all and never prevented us from progressing with a smile.

Conclusion of our cooperative adventure on Lost in Tandem

Lost in Tandem is a superb proposition for anyone looking for a soothing cooperative experience, visually splendid and emotionally rich. Building trust between both players through gameplay is a resounding success.

We simply spent a great evening exploring this universe. Time flew by at top speed, without a single second of boredom, as discovering each new chapter rekindles the wonder. A total immersion shared with our viewers live, who were all genuinely won over by the art direction and the very unique atmosphere of the title. We must also praise the talent of Tempete Studio, the French development team based in Poitiers, who managed to breathe so much soul into this project. A huge thank you as well to the publisher JuiceBox Studios for sending the key, allowing us to live and share this beautiful adventure with you!
