Hunger : straight into the dirt, blood, and black powder

We dive straight into the dirt, blood, and black powder. The horror and survival game market is about to welcome a truly unique UFO with a striking visual identity : Hunger. This new project propels us into a Europe torn apart by the Napoleonic wars, hit head-on by a nightmarish epidemic. We analyzed the visuals and the announced mechanics, and the result promises to be as brutal as it is addictive.

The world after the end : a sickening art direction

A Napoleonic Europe consumed by disease

The universe of the game hits hard right from the start. The action takes place in a sick, metallic, and completely desolate world, almost recalling the harshness of the Middle Ages, with the plague prowling at every street corner. The inhabitants are in a dreadful state, and the unluckiest ones have purely and simply mutated due to the virus. These monsters, named the Starved, wander through the ruins of a civilization that has completely collapsed.

💬 The game fully embraces its mature side : raw violence, gore, and extremely dark themes. We are immersed in a historical era rarely explored this way in video games, providing a genuinely refreshing visual experience.

Napoleon, the plague, and a horror game, this is a truly uncommon combination, bringing a much-needed breath of fresh air to the genre.

The art of old-school Extraction-RPG

A brutal arsenal to survive

On the gameplay side, Hunger opts for an ultra-dynamic mix : a touch of FPS, a dose of horrific slasher, and a massive foundation of extraction RPG. You play as a "Living" who manages their business from the Castle, your central hub where quest givers, merchants, and bounty hunters cross paths. As soon as you step outside, the tension rises to another level.

The title is playable as a lone wolf or in co-op with up to 3 players. The combat alternates very methodically between ranged shots (period rifles, pistols, hand mortars throwing glass grenades) and ultra-lethal close-quarters clashes featuring heavy axes and maces. You will need to play it smart, because the slightest mistake is paid for in cash.

Customization pushed to the extreme

The gameplay loop is punishing and fair : dying on the field means losing a good portion of your gear and hard-earned loot. The acquired experience, however, is kept and serves to level up your character.

The studio went all out on specialization with a monstrous talent tree featuring over 100 choices. Each player can unlock passive, tactical, or ultimate skills to forge their custom build :

  • Want to play absolute stealth by silencing your footsteps and picking locks? It is possible.
  • You prefer speeding up your reloads to clear an area quickly? No problem.
  • Feeling like playing the combat medic by repairing your friends' armor? The game gives you complete freedom.

The trailer : the first streams are landing on Twitch

There is no need to stare at static screenshots any longer. Here is the trailer that sets the mood for Hunger :

The LBC review : a concept packed with potential

After analyzing the first trailers and visuals, the enthusiasm is definitely real. The proposition holds up perfectly. Those who spent dozens of hours on Hood : Outlaws & Legends or Hunt : Showdown 1896 will find a very familiar vibe in the infiltration and extraction concept, bringing massive improvements to the table.

💾 The maps promise to be gigantic : gloomy forests, abandoned monasteries, dark mines, and huge castles overflowing with loot, weapons, and components to gather. The exploration promises to be as rewarding as it is stressful.

In short, we are incredibly eager to get our hands on it. Go check out the live broadcasts on Twitch to see the game running in real conditions and judge the atmosphere for yourself.

🕹️ Regarding the release, Good Fun Corporation (the creators of Hell Let Loose) remains vague for now : the early access for Hunger is announced for 2026, without a specific date yet. The studio also plans to keep the game in Early Access for about two years after launch, enriching it through player feedback.
