This article concludes our special report after Part I and Part II.

THE DOMINO EFFECT : WHEN "LOCAL" FINISHES OFF THE STOCKS

One might think that this "hold-up" on RAM only concerns the giant servers of Silicon Valley. But the reality is closer to your desk than you think. Because once the ogres (OpenAI, Microsoft, Google) have pre-bought the factories, only crumbs remain... and everyone is fighting to pick them up.

On one side, video game studios, banks, and research institutes are grabbing everything they can. On the other, there is you, us, and this immense community that refuses to depend on the cloud. Welcome to the great divide : "Closed Cloud" versus "Open Source Local".

  • 1. The "Guardrails" of the Giants : Official models (Sora, Veo 3) are ultra-policed by filters (RLHF). It's smooth, but it's restricted.
  • 2. The Wild West of Domestic AI : With Stable Diffusion or Flux.1, the code is public. No censorship, no limits... if you have the gear.
  • 3. The Arms Race : To run these tools at home, the demand for VRAM (24 GB cards) and system RAM (64 or 128 GB) has literally exploded.

Multiply this demand by millions of users, and you understand why even the smallest DDR5 stick is sold before it even hits the shelves. If the giants are the clean storefront of the sector, the rest of the planet is siphoning the global stock to run supercharged models at home.

Why is "Local" Finishing Off the Market ?

This is where the trap closes on the price of your components. To break free from Google's servers, the "Local" user is no longer satisfied with the gaming standard.

Compulsive Buying : To generate smooth video or load uncensored models of several dozen gigabytes, colossal memory reservoirs are needed. The "standard" PC player finds themselves in direct competition with the AI artist installing 128 GB of RAM.

CONCLUSION : IS THE "SUPPORTING ROLE" SUITING US ?

Let's be honest : between massive investments for servers and the explosion of local AI, the PC gamer has become a second-class customer. We are picking up the crumbs of a production that is no longer designed for us.

If you have 32 GB of RAM, keep them precious : they are worth their weight in gold today. Optimize your current config rather than searching for the impossible on the shelves.

And above all, don't forget what we talked about last time : Don't get fooled ! Check carefully who you are buying RAM or graphics cards from, and don't rush !

A FINAL WORD

This report is closing, but the situation remains under high surveillance on the Campus. We hope this journey into the heart of the shortage has helped you better understand why your future PC costs the price of a small car. We stay together, we adapt, and above all... we keep playing.
