Theos : Cities of Myth Finally Unveils Its Gameplay
Greetings, builders ! If, like me, you spent countless hours optimizing your road layouts and managing divine temper tantrums on monumental titles like Caesar, Zeus : Master of Olympus, or Emperor : Rise of the Middle Kingdom, this announcement will give you chills. Publisher Dotemu and developer Triskell Interactive have just unleashed the first gameplay video for Theos : Cities of Myth, their brand new city-building and management game.
And honestly, I cannot wait to get my hands on this. They already pulled off a colossal job with the Pharaoh remake, so I am incredibly eager to see what they have under the hood for this new Greek adventure. Let us break down this highly promising trailer together.
Into the Heart of Ancient Greece : Build the City of Your Dreams
From the very first seconds of the video, the atmosphere is perfectly set. In Theos : Cities of Myth, you will dedicate your city, the Polis, to one of the seven gods of Olympus. The trailer takes us on a tour of Athens, naturally placed under the protection of its namesake goddess, Athena.
Every foundation begins with the Sanctuary, which serves as the seat of divine power and the central hub around which your settlement will grow. From this majestic acropolis, the blessings of your patron deity will radiate across your citizens. But beware, the gods are demanding : Athena, for example, will quickly expect you to provide food and shelter for your first settlers. You will need to manage your barley fields, build granaries for storage, and distribute everything through the Agora.
💾 Fulfilling the desires of almighty figures like Ares or Athena earns you blessings and unlocks new buildings, a mechanic that fiercely recalls the divine favors of Zeus : Master of Olympus on our old late-90s PCs.
Divine wrath, on the other hand, can instantly turn the tide of events if you leave your population idle.
The Revolution in Walker Management
This is undoubtedly the feature that got me jumping out of my seat. If you know old-school city-builders, you know that resource-distributing units, the famous "walkers", would sometimes act completely erratically at intersections. Triskell's title brings ingenious solutions to these recurring issues : the game allows you to edit, rapidly duplicate, and fully customize the routes of these workers.
You now have absolute control over the movement of the units patrolling and protecting your town. Whether it is for Agora vendors, water access, fire brigade patrols, or maintenance workers, optimizing this road network will be fundamental to seeing your city grow and thrive.
Production Chains, Trade, and Diplomacy
Your citizens will quickly become more demanding. You will need to establish complete production chains to extract marble from the quarry, cut it into blocks for your temples, or sculpt it into ornamental statues. The game includes a vast array of resources to process : olives into oil, grapes into wine, sheep into wool, or even iron into steel.
💡 Pro Tip : keep a close eye on your processing chains right from the start of the game. A marble quarry poorly connected to its masonry workshop can slow down your entire temple construction.
And since your city is not the only Polis in Greece, diplomacy will be essential. You will be able to establish trade routes with your neighbors to import what you lack and export your surplus to keep your economy afloat. By opening these diplomatic channels, the player will have the choice to forge alliances, intimidate rivals into paying tribute, or simply send the army to invade them.
Mythological Heroes and Cultural Influence
Culture plays a central role, especially under the aegis of the goddess of wisdom. You can build philosophy schools connected to podiums, and assign great thinkers like Socrates or Aristotle so their teachings spread among the people, granting you significant bonuses. This cultural influence, combined with optimal living conditions and the favor of the gods, will allow you to attract historical and mythological figures to your city.
The Military Aspect
On the military side, once your steel or bronze stocks are secured, you will forge weapons, armor, and bows to turn your basic militiamen into archers, hoplites, or cavalry. By completing epic quests and expanding your power, legendary heroes like Achilles or Theseus might even join the battle to crush your enemies, sometimes with the direct support of your god.
A City-Builder Crafted for 2026
What stands out from this announcement is the perfect balance between nostalgia and modernity. Theos : Cities of Myth features a crystal-clear user interface to closely monitor employment, economy, trade routes, armies, and resource flows, all enhanced by stunning 3D buildings and dynamic lighting. The game offers dozens of hours of content through its unique missions, thematic campaigns, and a highly flexible sandbox mode where you can build the city of your dreams.
Triskell Interactive brilliantly reuses the tool suite previously introduced to make the game accessible to beginners while offering a deeply profound strategic challenge for veterans.
