It feels right ! This is the news that makes the Force vibrate : the second trailer for Dave Filoni’s new animated series has just dropped. We are leaving the white armor behind to dive into the red and purple shadows of the criminal underworld. Save the date : the journey begins on April 6, 2026, on Disney +.

If your last memory of Maul was him being cut in two on Naboo, it is time for an update. We pick up one year after Order 66. The Empire rules, but Maul hasn’t said his last word.

The Rebirth of a Myth

One year after Order 66 : Maul rebuilds his empire

Exiled on Janix, a planet that is still "quiet," he isn't just killing time : he is rebuilding his criminal empire with one single goal in mind : revenge against Darth Sidious. This is a "Godfather-esque" Maul, delivered in the mature tone that fans have been waiting for.

But Maul won’t be alone. He is training an apprentice, a Twi'lek named Devon Izara. A survivor of Order 66. This dynamic looks intriguing, especially through its contrast : a broken former Sith and a hunted ex-Jedi. It is bound to create sparks.

💾 If you have followed The Clone Wars and all the series that followed — Rebels, The Bad Batch, Tales of the Jedi, and Tales of the Empire — you will notice yet another evolution in the graphic style. It is sharper than ever. A true progression from a studio that has never mastered its craft more than now.

Visually, it delivers !

A love letter to the Clone Wars aesthetic, on steroids

Filoni promised us : this series is a love letter to the The Clone Wars aesthetic, but pushed to the maximum. Sam Witwer (the legendary voice of Maul) describes a tone that is more "brutal, dangerous, and pictorial." We are promised thick shadows and red and purple light plays that perfectly match Maul’s psyche.

"We are truly creating cinema." - Dave Filoni

A Top-Tier Cast

Great talent surrounding Sam Witwer

You don't change a winning team : Sam Witwer returns to the role he has inhabited since 2008. But he is surrounded by a stellar cast :

  • Gideon Adlon (Devon Izara) : The apprentice with an uncertain fate.
  • Wagner Moura (Captain Brander Lawson) : A local detective who will likely regret crossing paths with Maul.
  • Richard Ayoade : The droid 2B0T "Two-Boots".
  • Marrok (voiced by A. J. LoCascio) : The mysterious warrior seen in Ahsoka makes his return in animated form !

🕹️ Practical Info - Don't miss a thing :

📅 Launch Date : April 6, 2026 (double episode premiere !)
📺 Format : 10 episodes
🗓️ Release Schedule : 2 episodes per week
🌟 Grand Finale : May 4th (May the 4th), to celebrate Star Wars Day in style.

Conclusion : The Galaxy's Godfather is Back

This is exactly what we love here. This series will fill the narrative gap between Clone Wars and Rebels, while showing us a Maul more calculated than ever. The mature tone and "extreme" animation promise a mental descent that Dave Filoni is famous for. The dynamic between a broken former Sith and a hunted ex-Jedi opens exciting narrative perspectives — and the cast, from Witwer to Moura, guarantees a performance up to the project's ambition.
