HARRY POTTER : THE HBO SERIES TRAILER IS FINALLY HERE
It is the shockwave no one saw coming before the holidays ! While everyone expected a 2027 release, HBO has broken the silence : the Harry Potter series arrives for Christmas 2026. To accompany the announcement, a first two-minute trailer has just been uploaded. Between nostalgic thrills and the fear of a reboot, we are breaking down what truly awaits us at Hogwarts.
Twenty-five years after Chris Columbus's visual shock in theaters, Warner Bros is starting from scratch with a strong promise : seven seasons, one per book, for a broadcast spanning over ten years. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner’s (His Dark Materials) goal is to explore every chapter that the films had to sacrifice due to time constraints.
Throughout the series, we should discover deeper moments of daily life with the Dursleys, but also scenes never before seen on screen : Hermione’s childhood with Muggles, the intimacy of the Malfoy Manor, or the behind-the-scenes life in the professors' offices, humanizing figures like McGonagall or Flitwick.

A CASTING THAT BREAKS THE RULES

It is the end of an era. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson are officially passing the torch to Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton. But it is on the adult side that the casting hits hard :
- John Lithgow (Dumbledore) : He becomes the first American actor to lead Hogwarts, bringing a more theatrical aura.
- Paapa Essiedu (Snape) : Alan Rickman’s successor arrives with a dramatic intensity that is already being praised.

🕹️ My opinion : I personally think the role of Hagrid is a perfect match for Nick Frost, I hope he delivers ! His ability to blend humor and tenderness is a major asset for the character.
WHY THIS "COLD" VISUAL SHIFT ?
The trailer marks a clear break from the very colorful "fairy tale" aesthetic of 2001. We are looking at a bleaker cinematography, leaning towards grey tones and chiaroscuro, as you will see for yourself in the video. Casey Bloys (HBO) explains this choice by a desire to match the atmosphere of current prestige series like House of the Dragon.
It is a risky bet : for many fans, the magic of Hogwarts is inseparable from warm colors. Here, the image is clean, almost... clinical, which creates a certain emotional distance that only the talent of the new actors can bridge.
THE PRODUCTION CHALLENGE : A 10-YEAR MARATHON
Warner Bros warns : do not expect one season per year. The complexity of the sets and the growth rate of the young actors impose a tight but realistic schedule. The budget is colossal, exceeding that of the first season of Game of Thrones, to ensure that every spell meets the expectations of 2026.
CONCLUSION : FAITHFUL OR REDUNDANT ?
The Harry Potter series from HBO promises to be a massive and serious work. If the visual shift might be disconcerting, the promise of absolute fidelity to J.K.
