Xbox Showcase 2026 : The Filter is Necessary

We are back at it for our summer selections! After an intense first debrief, we went live again on Twitch with ZekkeyTV to follow the Xbox conference of these Summer Games. Now that Summer Game Fest 2026 has wrapped up, this article becomes part of our complete coverage of the event and its biggest announcements. If you haven't caught up on our previous selections yet, start with our PC Gaming Show 2026 selection or our State of Play June 2026 recap to fill up your wishlist across all your platforms. When you have been hanging around the video game scene since the late 80s, you inevitably develop a highly sensitive radar. We have to admit it : if we remove the blockbusters endlessly recycling the same formula, there isn't always much left. Filtering is a must.

Flying solo here, I decided to only talk about what truly triggered a reaction from me, whether out of pure curiosity for an original artistic vision, nostalgia, or simply a guilty pleasure. Here are the titles that caught my eye, alongside those that left me completely cold.

The Showstoppers and the Oddities

Magicians : The Devil's Deal : Dark Magic Steps In for 2027

Revealed as a "World Premiere", this is exactly the kind of project that immediately grabs your attention with its atmosphere. Developed by Uppercut Games (veterans of the BioShock series) and published by Focus Entertainment, we are looking at a first-person narrative action game set in "Theatreland", a nightmarish and distorted version of Victorian London.

We play as Jacob, a former stage illusionist who made a pact with the Devil and finds himself using fearsome magical powers to survive his enemies. The trailer reveals a clever mix of atmospheric exploration, frantic combat, and evolving abilities. The consequences of our actions seem to shape the narrative.

🕹️ Take note : Magicians : The Devil's Deal will be available on the Xbox Game Pass right at launch. Scheduled for 2027 on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC.

The art direction truly stands out. This theatrical universe, filled with puppets and demonic entities, possesses a highly unique touch. It is clearly a project to put on your wishlist to monitor its evolution very closely leading up to 2027!

Fable : The Return Comes Into Focus

Microsoft's cult franchise is finally taking shape with a release announced for February 23, 2027. The new trailer allowed us to discover Isabel, played by actress Hayley Atwell. The very "British" humor and the quirky tone of the series seem to be perfectly intact, carried by a visual execution that is starting to flex its muscles. And for the day-one fans : we even caught a fleeting glimpse of Jack of Blades, the iconic enemy from the very first installment, right at the end of the trailer.

Fable : 30 Minutes of Gameplay to Get a Clearer Picture

Great news pointed out by ZekkeyTV : a 30-minute gameplay video just dropped, titled "Build An Extraordinary Life". We get to see the main character taking a stroll through a village, completing a side quest, and interacting with a few NPCs.

Personal verdict : nothing too crazy so far. The characters feel a bit stiff, and I personally catch a heavy Hogwarts Legacy vibe from the combat mechanics and the overall atmosphere. This could actually turn out great, it just needs to prove itself over the long haul. We shall see!

Minecraft Dungeons II : The Successor is Here

An announcement that will thrill fans of accessible and cooperative hack 'n' slash. The sequel to the excellent cubic spin-off took advantage of the event to reveal itself, promising to prolong the adventure with new threats and increasingly varied environments. Good news for the impatient : the release is set for September 29, 2026, so it is coming up fast.

My Guilty Pleasures and Nostalgic Returns

State of Decay 3 : It Was About Time!

We were just talking about this in the previous review : drawn-out sequels tend to wear me out, and yet, this one strikes a very sensitive chord with me. State of Decay 3 is finally showing its face for a 2027 release. The formula of survival, tension, and community management is clearly taking a technical and visual leap forward. It is my fully embraced paradox of the evening!

💾 The State of Decay franchise is one of those IPs walking a tightrope : demanding enough to captivate survival fans, accessible enough not to scare away newcomers. The third installment seems eager to push both sliders even further.

Crazy Taxi : World Tour : The Pure Arcade Catharsis

A franchise that made massive waves in the late 90s and early 2000s, before slipping under the radar. Getting back to speeding through the streets to complete little objectives feels incredibly good. This new episode promises a story-driven campaign across five unique cities, an online multiplayer mode, car customization, and a classic mode brought up to date.

💡 A fun and simple concept, offering a great change of pace from ultra-demanding simulations like Le Mans Ultimate or heavy hitters like Forza Horizon. It is the ultimate cathartic game. If you have never touched the franchise, this return scheduled for 2027 is the perfect opportunity.

Age of Empires IV, Vikings DLC : Tradition Respected

How could we not mention the imminent arrival of this DLC titled Raiders of the North, which introduces the highly anticipated Viking civilization? Played heavily back in the Age of Empires II era, we wondered when the developers would finally release it in this fourth installment.

⚠️ The veteran's little jab : Let's be honest, we know the drill. With every release of a new civilization on AoE, it arrives with totally "OP" (overpowered) stats, just to strongly encourage buying the DLC... and after two or three months, it takes a massive "nerf" to rebalance the game. Consider yourself warned!

What Completely Flew Over My Head...

As for the rest, I must admit the conference did not hype me up all that much. The new content for Sea of Thieves promises features allowing you to define your own game rules, freely distribute crews, and immortalize the chaos with a "Free Camera" mode. We also saw a "Skeleton Scoreboard" contest and a "Rowboat Royale" mode... I sincerely doubt this is the number one priority players are waiting for, and that is quite a shame for the game.

The same goes for Flight Simulator, which seems to serve us the same formula since 1995. As for most of the other titles presented, the feeling of seeing sequels we have already seen and reviewed, done and redone, got the better of my patience. I really do not expect much from them anymore.
